In art class...

Kindergarten will be focusing on the Elements of art and a wide variety of media and techniques.

Each lesson usually involves a story with a project that relates. The stories could be about culture, art, art history and or cross curricular.

Students will develop fine motor skills, their own sense of creativity with academics.

Bats and silouett
We created a silhouette of a house and tree and then made bats by folding a sheet of black paper and tracing our hand we cut then out and opened them up , creating a bat.
Flint Corn (Indian corn) Thanksgiving
Students learned about flint corn and their beautiful colors as well as learning a bit about thanksgiving and being thankful.

Drawing in the snow
We used white tempera paint and the students scratched in a drawing into the "snow" to create a picture based on things we like to do in the snow

Beautiful Oops!
Students were read the story Beautiful Oops by Barney Saltzberg.
"When you think you've made a mistake, think of it as an opportunity to make something beautiful!" Barney Saltzberg
Kindergarten created their very own Oops book
We made scribbles, tore paper, painted splotches and smears and put holes in paper and turned them into little imaginative works of art.

Parents and or guardians:

Our Kindergarteners will be doing some wonderful things in art class this year which may require some materials to be brought in from home. I will send a note home if we are in need of any supplies.  The supplies will not require purchasing.

Please make sure that your child wears clothing that is appropriate for art. Being creative can be messy:)

With your permission, your child's  artwork will be shown on an online site called Artsonia.

Artsonia is the largest student art museum in the world! Every child can have an online art gallery and preserve their masterpieces until they graduate highschool!

Please remember to go to the website and vote on artwork.  Voting is open once a week.  They randomly pick from different age groups from any artwork that was posted the week before. You can even set up an email reminder to vote.
